Waffle-Weave Topper

You'll Need:Kitchen towel with picture on both ends(makes 2 towels),4-ply cotton yarn,1/2"-5/8" button in color to match towel,"F" hook,Aleene's "Okay to Wash-it" fabric glue
Prepare Towel:Cut towel in half width-wise so you have a picture on both ends.Apply an even coat of glue to cut ends of towels,using a paint brush or finger tip.Let dry several hours.
Pattern:Sc in dc,dc in sc.

Row 1:Make a row of sc evenly spaced across cut edge of towel,about 1/8"-1/4" apart(approximately 66 sc).More or less sc doesn't effect the pattern.Use a smaller hook to punch holes in the towel as you work.
Row 2:Ch 1,turn.Sc in each sc across.
Row 3:Ch 1,turn.Sc in next stitch,dc in next stitch across.
Row 4:Work
Pattern in next 2 stitches,skip next 2 stitches across.If you have stitches left over,slip stitch into last stitch in row.Work ch 1 or ch 3 to turn,staying in pattern.
Row 5-10:Repeat rows 3&4 3 times(6 stitches).
Row 11:Repeat row 3(6 stitches).
Row 12-24:Repeat row 11(6 stitches).
Row 25:Ch 3,turn.Dc in each stitch across(6 dc).
Row 26:Ch 1,turn.Sc in next dc,hdc in next dc,dc in next 2 dc,hdc in next dc,sc in next dc(6 stitches).
Finish off.Weave in ends.

Seperate 2 strands of 4-strand cotton yarn from 6"-long piece.Sew button to center of row 11 of towel topper.

To hang,flip handle to front and slip button between 2 middle dc's of row 25.
Gift Ideas:

Kitchen
Make 2 towels with cotton toppers,dishcloth and potholder.Place in mixing bowl with a couple of utensils.

Bath
Make 2 towels with cotton toppers,face cloth and soap saver.Place in nice basket with fancy soap and lotion.
