Scrap 9-Patch Square
9 3/4"x9 3/4"
This square is a great way to use up your yarn scraps.Each 2-round  "patch" takes only 7 yards,and can be put together in numerous configurations.
You'll Need:
Various colors scrap yarn,1 strand worsted or 2 strands sport(held together),about 24-oz. main color,"J" hook.

To Make:

Patch 1:
With CA,ch 4,join with slip st to form ring.
Rnd 1:Ch 3,2 dc in ring,ch 2(3 dc,ch 2)3 times.Join with slip st to beg ch 3.
Rnd 2:Slip st in next 2 dc and ch-2 sp,Ch 3(2 dc,ch 2,3 dc)in same sp.(Ch 1,3 dc,ch 2,3 dc)3 times.Join with slip st to beg ch-3.Leaving a 5" tail,fasten off and weave tail back and forth to secure end.
Patches 2-5:
Repeat pattern for patch 1,using MC.On second round,join corner ,sp,corner to patch 1.
Patches 6-7:
Repeat pattern for patch 1,using CB.On second round,join corner,sp,corner,sp,corner.
Patches 8-9:
Repeat pattern for patch 1,using CC.On second round,join corner,sp,corner,sp,corner.

When all the patches are connected,join MC in any corner ch-2 sp.Work (3dc,ch 2,3dc)in corner ch-2 sp,(ch 1,3 dc)in each ch-1 sp.Where patches are joined,work 1 dc in sp before joining,1 dc in joining sc,1 dc in sp after joining.
Join 9-patch squares together to make afghan.
Work a sc in each dc and sp around,with 3 sc in the corner ch-2 sp.
On each end,I joined purple in one corner,ch 5,3 dc in center dc of each dc group,ch 1,trc in each ch-1 sc.
