On The Road
18 years ago,Mike and I lived a normal life.He was a plastics technician, working in a factory 8 hours a day, while I was a housewife, waiting those 8 hours just for him to come home.We lived for the weekends when we could spend 48 hours together, swimming in the lake we lived on,motorcycle riding and going to flea markets.
We were sitting watching TV one afternoon, when a commercial came on about a truck driving school a few miles down the road.I was familiar with the trucking industry as my father had been driving on and off for 11 years.I had even been on a few local trips with him when I was younger. It sounded interesting,so Mike signed up.
Mike went to school for 6 weeks, graduating 2nd in his class.Within a few days,he signed on with an over-the-road carrier, hauling refrigerated and frozen products over 48-states.
The only bad part about this whole dealwas,as a trainee,Mike had to ride with a trainer for 3 months,so I couldn't go with him.I packed up and moved back in with my parents, while Mike learned everything he needed to know about driving a truck. It was hard being apart, but knowing we would soon be together all the time made it not so bad.
The day finally arrived when I packed up and moved into a truck. That was over 16 years ago and I have learned alot since then, like not wearing anything white(5th-wheel grease doesn't come out),learn to like wearing hats(you can't fix your hair every day),and finding something you like to do to occupy your time(crochet & crafts). The best part about driving a truck is that my husband and I have shared all the new experiences together.
