Diamond Granny Afghan
Joining Method Design2002 by Catherine Lindsay
I used the first 3 rounds from Katherine Eng's "Amish Print Afghan",found on the FreePatterns.com site.The 4th round is a version of the traditional Granny Square.These squares,about 5 1/2", are joined-as-you-go.
You'll Need:
4-Ply yarn,various shades of light and dark-About 20-oz. for joining color-"J" hook.I used Redheart "Linen" for the joining color.
To Make:
First Motif:
Rnd 1-3:Work rounds 1-3 of "Amish Print Afghan",using one color for round 1 and a lighter or darker shade for rounds 2-3.
Rnd 4:Slip stitch joining color in any corner space,ch 3,in same space,work (2 dc's,ch 2,3 dc's).*Ch 1,dc in next ch-1 space,ch 1,2 dc's in next ch-2 space,ch 1,2 dc"s in next ch-2 space,ch 1,dc in next ch-1 sp,ch 1,(3 dc's,ch 2,3 dc's)all in next ch-3 sp.Repeat from * around,ending with ch-1.Join with slip stitch to 3rd ch of beginning ch-3.
Remaining motifs:
Rep rnds 1-3
Rnd 4:Slip stitch joining color in any corner space on new square,ch 3,in same space,work 2 dc's,ch 1,with wrong sides facing,sc in corner space of previous square,ch 1,3 dc's.Continue on as with first motif,joining with sc in ch-1 spaces and (ch 1,sc,ch 1)in corner ch-2 spaces.

Note:Squares can also be sewn together.
