Scrap Tweed Tassel Hat 20"-24" Design2004 by Catherine Lindsay
This pattern is similiar to my Tweed Hat. I just can't throw away even the smallest scrap of yarn! Example in Mainstays Olive Twist.
You'll Need: Approximately 2oz each solid-color and scrap worsted yarn,"K" hook. Gauge:5 Hdc=2" Note:I use strands of yarn 10"-2yds long.I tie them together, leaving 1" tails.Pull all tassels to the front of hat and seperate strands of tassels as you go. Hold 1 strand of solid and 1 strand of tied scraps together. To Make: Mark beginning of each round 1-6. Rnd 1:Ch 3,work 8 hdc in second ch from hook(8 hdc). Rnd 2:Work 2 hdc in each st around(16 hdc). Rnd 3:1 hdc in next st,2 hdc in next st around(24 hdc). Rnd 4:2 hdc in next st,hdc in next 2 st around(32 hdc). Rnd 5:Hdc in next 3 st,2 hdc in next st around(40 hdc). Rnd 6:2 hdc in next st,hdc in next 7 st around(45 hdc). Rnd 7-?:Hdc in each st around.I measure the length of the hat by my own head, depending on how long I want it.Around 16-18 rows.Just make sure you have enough solid-color yarn leftover to make an edging. Edge: Dropping scrap yarn, work 2 sc in each st around with solid-color yarn.Fasten off, weave in ends. Note:This hat would also look good in coordinating colors(solid tan with scrap neutrals, etc).
